Chip HeathChip Heath
Professor and Author, Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die
Thursday, May 17, 8:30 am

In his new book Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die, co-authored with Dan Heath, Chip Heath examines why certain ideas — ranging from urban legends to folk medical cures — survive and prosper in the social marketplace of ideas. Why is it that urban legends stick in the back of our minds? And why is it that you can’t get that clever little auto insurance commercial out of your head? Heath will answer these questions and help you, as a leader or marketer, create messages that will break through the larger marketplace of ideas and stick to what’s important. Heath is a Professor of Organizational Behavior in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. His course, How to Make Ideas Stick, has now been taught to hundreds of students including managers, teachers, doctors, journalists, venture capitalists, product designers, and film producers. See Chip & Dan Heath on the Today show.

Michael LewisMichael Lewis
Author, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage of Wall Street
Friday, May 18, 8:30 am

A shrewd observer of politics, finance and the American scene, Michael Lewis combines keen insight and social commentary with a signature sense of humor. Taking his second dive into the world of professional sports with The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game (W.W. Norton, 2006), Lewis delves into the substructure of football and, specifically, the less-heralded linemen who are overshadowed by society’s fascination with point-scorers. The Blind Side comes on the heels of Lewis’ 2003 bestseller Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, which shows the effect that an innovative personnel approach has had in allowing the small-budget Oakland Athletics to consistently rank among baseball’s best. In 1989, Lewis first made a name for himself with the chart-topping Liar’s Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage of Wall Street, an inside look at his career as a bond trader that best-selling author Tom Wolfe labeled “the funniest book on Wall Street I’ve ever read.”
